Fahr’s Disease is a progressive, permanent, non-diseases that affect the nervous system. These disorders can result from a variety of underlying conditions such as stroke, meningitis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy. The Ayurvedic treatment of these disorders involves treating the known cause along with relieving the signs or symptoms. Common symptoms of these disorders include slowing of mental processes, loss of balance, speech problems, seizures, and blindness. Ayurvedic treatment aims at improving the functions of the body to avoid further damage.
Fahr’s Disease and Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment
Ayurvedic treatment is aimed at treating the basic pathology of the disease and preventing or reducing the complications associated with it. If left untreated, Fahr’s can lead to a devastating effect on the victim’s life. Fahr’s develops in adolescence or early adulthood and can affect both children and adults. Some of the common symptoms of Fahr’s include muscular weakness, seizures, or poor motor coordination or balance; speech problems; difficulty with swallowing; loss of vision; and developmental or cognitive impairment.
A gait complication of Fahr’s is called Parkinsonism. Patients who have developed Parkinsonism show early signs of poor muscle tone and poor posture. The Ayurvedic treatment of Parkinsonism is aimed at preventing complications that may arise from the disease and improving the functioning of the brain and the nervous system. The Ayurvedic treatment of Parkinsonism includes treating neurological complications, treating physical complications and improving the quality of life. It is also recommended that gait therapy is part of the treatment of patients with Parkinsonism.
Treatments of Fahr’s Disease
The Ayurvedic treatment of Fahr’s disease generally requires a combination of medications and therapeutic measures. Medicines that act on the ‘Rakta’ data (tissue) are used to treat patients with Fahr’s disease. These medicines include Patol, Musta (Cyperus rotundus), Nimba (Azadirachta indica), Triphala (Three fruits), and Kuta. Medicines like Laxmi Vilas Ras, Laxadi Guggulu, Shrung Bhasma, and Vishwa are used to prevent or reduce the further progression of the disease. It is important to note that all these medicines need to be taken only after consultation from an Ayurvedic doctor.
Ayurvedic treatment of Fahr’s disease includes several controlled processes. These include gradual detoxification of the body through alcohol or juice diets, removal of body weight through intense exercising, medical monitoring of electrolytes, metabolic parameters and muscle tone, and withdrawal from addictive substances such as nicotine and caffeine. In addition, medicines are used to reduce or eliminate pain and discomfort. Pain management includes using medicines like Mahanarayan oil, Mahamash oil, and Chandraprabha oil.
